INDIAN MONDAY

Seeing as any chance of having an Indian summer are now buried beneath several inches of snow, we figured that, thanks to the excellent Indian Motorbikes website, we'd have an Indian Monday...

FRIDAY AFTERNOON EVEL

Here's the recent ad that General Motors made to be shown over Thanksgiving, with footage of Evel Knievel's famous fall at London's Wembley Stadium in 1975.

HARLEY DEALERSHIPS NOT IN ADMINISTRATION...

Apparently, contrary to our post yesterday, Dockgate 20 and Thames Valley Harley-Davidson are not in administration.

On 15th December, we received not one but two press releases stating that Dockgate 20 Ltd, the owner of the two dealerships was in administration, and that a solvency practitioner had been appointed to deal with the liquidation.

On 16th December, we received a third press release which stated that neither Dockgate 20 or Thames Valley H-D were in administration, and the 'official statement was released in error'.

And who released this 'official statement'. RBP International, Harley-Davidson UK's PR agency which handles publicity and PR for the company and for the dealer network. Does it just inspire confidence?

LAST ORIGINAL CAPTAIN AMERICA BIKE DESTROYED

The only remaining original 'Captain America' Harley-Davidson riden by Peter Fonda in Easy Rider was destroyed today along with other bikes and classic cars in a fire at a collector's warehouse in Austin, Texas.

The cause of the fire at Gordon Granger's warehouse, which also claimed Model Ts, a Rolls-Royce, Jaguars and cars from the 1920s and '30s, has yet to be determined, but there's currently a dog sniffing around for gasoline or another accelerant according to KVUE. The cost of the damage is pegged at $100,000 for the warehouse and $1 million to 22 cars and 8 bikes.

GHOST (BICYCLE) RIDER

Okay, it might not have an engine, but this ‘Ghost Lowrider’ is still pretty damn cool. It’s the creation of Fraz who told us, “I’ve used the methods I use on motorbikes to produce a custom bicycle I the most ‘Orange County’ style I could.

Fraz is just setting up his own custom shop, Mahoosive Customs, working on bikes and cars, up in Cumbria. To get in touch, give him a shout on 07920 724877.

ESCAPE TO THE SUN

Ever wondered what ex-magazine editors do when they finally run screaming from their desks? Well, some of them go to the sun, which is what Pat Rihoy did when she quit her job as editor of a UK bike magazine. She and her young man, Rik, escaped to Portugal where they renovated a farmhouse and cottage that they now run as a B&B.

Now, from 1st December 2010 to 28th February 2011 Pat and Rik are offering accommodation at an extra-special rate. Book a minimum of two nights, and Mara's Cottage will be just 15 euros a night. The Cottage has been converted from 200-year-old buildings and has fabulous views, its own log burning stove, ornate carved bed, kitchenette and ensuite shower and toilet.

If you don't want to cook, then speak nicely to Pat and for just a few euros, she will provide you with dinner (and she's a pretty good cook too, and grows many of her own vegetables).
The B&B is within walking distance of the village of Figueira which has its own cafe-bar, and a couple of miles from the market town of Figueiró dos Vinhos. The area has stunning scenery, ancient ruins, fluvial beaches and good shopping. Seeing as the snow is lying on the ground here in the UK, what are you waiting for?
